Free Comic Book Day at Pulp Comics
May 4, 2013Sunny weather, free BBQ, a visit from the 501st Legion and of course, free comics!
The weather couldn’t be more perfect for Free Comic Book Day at Pulp Comics in Niagara Falls. The store opened it’s doors on May 22nd, 2009 and now calls 4559 Queen Street it’s home. Any visitor to the store will notice that it’s unlike many other comic book stores, in that it not only has an arcade in the basement (where they have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mortal Kombat among their arcade games) but is well lit, amazingly organized and has some of the best staff a comic book store could have. We were honored to be able to spend the morning with the owner, Paul, and his crew as they celebrated Free Comic Book Day, and of course, May the 4th.
From it’s opening at 10AM the store saw a steady stream of customers coming for the wide selection of free comics including The Walking Dead (with a short story featuring Tyreese), Judge Dredd Classics (the introduction of Judge Death with all new coloring), Superman: The Last Son of Krypton (a great read for anyone eager to see Man of Steel), and more. Kids were happy to get their hands on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and some Batman comics, as well as get their photo taken with some of the members of the 501st Legion. Everyone loved seeing Darth Vader, R2-D2, the stormtroopers and imperial guards, but the real attraction was a cosplayer dressed as Spider-Man whom shocked kids would point to and yell “MOM LOOK! SPIDER-MAN!”.
Podcasters We Got the Geek were on hand playing a roll the dice game; roll the dice, get asked a question and be on one of their upcoming podcasts! You can check out their site for all of their episodes (comic or movies) and download their podcasts on iTunes too.
If you couldn’t make it down to Pulp Comics for Free Comic Book Day, check out the gallery of photos below of the event! Thank you so much to Paul and his crew for having us there, the 501st Legion for sweating it out in the heat, and the guys manning the BBQ, it was delicious!
A message from Pulp Comics (via Facebook) “Well another FCBD is in the books. What an amazing day! Pulp Nation turned out in numbers we couldn’t of imagined. You are all incredible and the staff and myself at Pulp Comics appreciate your continued patronage and support. Thank you all for making Pulp Comics what we are today, which is the biggest and best comic book store in the Niagara Region. Without you there is no Pulp Comics.”
