Black Adam 2 on pause – maybe indefinitely
December 20, 2022Today, The Rock confirmed on his Instragram (@therock) that Black Adam 2 would not be included in the first phase of James Gunn & Peter Safran’s relaunched DC Universe series of films.
It’s currently sitting at 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, but with a relatively decent audience score of 88%.
It wasn’t seen by a ton of people, but those who saw it, dug it.
According to Deadline Black Adam is on track to lose $100 million – that is not chump change, particularly given the executive shakeup at Warner Brothers. The Deadline article prompted a response from The Rock (which is unconfirmed) that suggested the film was actually on track to make money, in the neighbourhood of $52-72 million.
Given the argument over numbers, it was hard to see a path forward for The Rock-fronted property, which was a passion project of his from the jump.
However, all is not lost for fans of the flick, as the door isn’t closed just yet. It’s closed for now, but maybe not forever. The Rock was specific that Black Adam won’t be in the first chapter of the Gunn/Safran story…but there is likely to be more than just one chapter.
He also used the word multiverse so…who knows.
