When Worlds Collide: A Guide To Convergence

When Worlds Collide: A Guide To Convergence

April 2, 2015 1 By EVA

DC Comics is kicking into action with it’s mammoth event Convergence which is to begin this week with issue #0 spanning across not only the month of April but May as well. The publisher will be halting all if it’s ongoing comics (aside from things like Sensation Comics, Mortal Kombat X and Batman 66′ just to name a few) to make way for it’s main running title as well as the the forty tie ins that will be running once each month during the event. This seems to be the moment readers have been waiting for with fan favorites like Cassandra Cain and The Question, along with many others, making a long awaited return to comics. This will also mark the return of famous creators like Greg Rucka and Dan Jurgens as they once again work alongside these iconic characters.

While the idea of Convergence can seem a bit overwhelming hopefully this handy guide will help make things just a little bit easier as readers both new and old prepare to jump into the event which will change the lives of these characters forever.

So here comes the big question that a lot of readers might be asking themselves: What is CONVERGENCE?

Brainiac has trapped cities from various timelines and planets (like Flashpoint and Kingdom Come) that have long since been gone. With Convergence, DC will be introducing a new villain by the name of Telos who defies Brainiac, dropping the domes on all these cities, standing amidst the chaos as the characters from each world come into conflict with one another. While the motives of this new character are unclear at the moment, DC comics president Dan Didio has stated that the results and answers to these actions will not be something fans will want to miss.

The main run for Convergence will span throughout nine issues with a new release every Wednesday until the end of May. Alongside the main run will be forty tie in titles, featuring classic characters which will help to tie the entire event together. These titles will run once a month during the two month event.

Now while Convergence is set to take place after the happenings of the weekly series Earth 2: World’s End and New 52: Future’s End, readers don’t necessarily have to start there. DC comics seems to be making things as easy for readers as possible including an interactive website which gives brief detail into the back story of each world, as well as a trailer to help push things forward.

One thing is for certain; the DC universe as we all knew it will never be the same.
