300: Rise of An Empire – New Vision, New Characters

Ever wonder what happened to the rest of the Greeks after 300? Well exactly 8 years after the release of its prequel, 300: Rise of an Empire is going to tell you.

Now the first trailer, complete with some rather impressive CG shots, was initially released back in June, leaving us with that typical, Hollywood, not-quite-a-year-long wait (Do they think that’s fun? That’s not fun!), but the third trailer hit the web just a couple of days ago, showing off a little more of that classic 300 style.

Lena Headey, of Game of Thrones and Terminator fame, reprises her role as Queen Gorgo and Rodrigo Santoro is back, delivering all that war with gilded flair, as Xerxes. It looks like David Wenham is returning as well (Faramir from Lord of the Rings, to jog your memories) as Dilios, the beloved, one-eyed narrator, while a new face to the franchise, Eva Green will portray the legendary Artemisia I of Caria. A woman with an impressive battle resume, Artemisia is a queen regent, ally of Xerxes and commander in the Persian navy.

With a new cast of characters, including Themistocles of Athens (That’s right! Not Sparta, Athens!) and the fight moving from land to sea, it will be interesting to see how this battle pans out. The visual beauty of 300 was both dark and delightful and I have always loved the graphic novel (it might just be my favourite of all time). Although he isn’t directing this time around, Zack Synder still holds the writing credit for the prequel and it looks like it will hit the same marks that 300 did. Take a look at the newest trailer and let us know what you think in the comments below!
