The Assassins Creed Movie Is Real!

After months of speculation and rumor, we have some confirmation that the movie is actually happening.

For over a year now there have been rumors floating around the internet that there was going to be a movie made based on Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed video games. No studio would really comment on it or confirm that the movie was going to be made, we would just get hints that something was in the works and we would just have to wait for it to come around.

On October 16th The Daily Beast sat down with actor Michael Fassbender to talk about his role in 12 Years a Slave, and also the possibility of him being the lead actor in Assassins Creed. Fassbender was quoted saying that;

“That’s definitely happening. We’re just developing the script at the moment. I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player … that’s not what they’re called. [Laughs] I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting—the idea of reliving memories.”

This is super exciting news for movie lovers and gamers alike. We not only get a movie based on one of the biggest game franchises out there, but we get a powerhouse actor like Fassbender to act the lead role of Desmond Miles.

There is also a huge downside to this game being made into a movie, and we have seen it time after time before. Video game movies have not been good in the past… AT ALL. Almost every video game movie made to date has been a huge flop and ended up destroying the name of the original game. Best noted was the destruction of Resident Evil. The game was hugely popular for years, studio makes a movie based on it, butchers the story, and makes 5 too many sequels just to make another dollar. I hope Assassins Creed does not get this treatment at all. Assassins Creed is know for it’s interesting story that mixes past and present to draw the player into the game.

Please Ubisoft, whoever you choose to write this movie, do not let them destroy the game we all love!
