It sounds like something out of a Hunter S Thompson book, but we promise that The Campaign Trail is just a card game where your friends may fear and loathe you, but it’s all in good fun, right?

The Campaign Trail was designed by Joseph Mantha and drawn by Santhosh Christudas, a pair that wanted to bring the traditional game of Bullshit (Cheat in Britain and a more family friendly name of ‘I Doubt It’) to politics which, when you think about it, really goes hand in hand.

The game is easy: you’ll want to start your campaign as any politician does by making promises about donating to a college or building a hospital. In order to pay for these promises, you have to use your resources to say, hold a gala or sell real estate, and this is where the real fun begins. Since you are playing your resource cards face down, only you know what is really on them and you can choose to lie about it. However, choose wisely and hope that you don’t have any ‘tells’ that your friends know about because they can choose to call you out and see whether or not you were really being honest. If you are caught lying, or another player incorrectly accuses you of lying, the media is going to find out about it and there will be bad press splashed everywhere for your dishonesty or false accusations.

There are, however, cards that you can use to avoid bad press, such as celebrity gossip or news about a football game that overshadows any kind of bad press you may have had coming your way for lying.

Whoever has the most points, that’s campaign promises added up and then minus the bad press, wins the game.
