On The Rack – September 10th, 2014

September 9, 2014 0 By EVA

Another week passes and some of you may have gone back to school, but there always a reason to put the books away for a short break to read some comics. New comics on Wednesday is as good a reason as any, so lets show you whats coming out this week On The Rack.

Boom! Studios

Wilds End #1

This week Boom has a new mini series hitting the shelf that might interest some of you out there that enjoy picking up new stories instead of the same old stuff week in and week out.

“WHY WE LOVE IT: We love smart takes on classic science-fiction mythos and who better to take advantage of the iconography of H.G. Wells and War of the Worlds than Dan Abnett, one of comics’ most renowned sci-fi writers and one of creators responsible for the groundbreaking run on Guardians of the Galaxy that inspired the upcoming Marvel movie. Paired with I.N.J. Culbard who has made a name for himself with the critically acclaimed adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, it’s a team perfectly built for the visually impactful adventure stories readers love. WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: Inspired by the sci-fi aesthetic of War of the Worlds and the anthropomorphic characters of Blacksad and Mouse Guard, readers will be blown away by Culbard’s art while fans of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s Cornetto Trilogy (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, WORLD’S END) will fall in love with Clive, Peter, and Gilbert as they try to survive an alien invasion. WHAT IT’S ABOUT: When a rural English community of the 1930s is the victim of an alien invasion, the residents’ lives are upended by the harsh realities of life-and-death violence. Led by the town’s outsider and retired war veteran, they will have to rally together to uncover the secret of their invaders and ultimately fight back.”

DC Comics

Batman Futures End #1

DC continues this week with their Futures End 3D covers across many of their titles. Also available in non 3D if you don’t want to buy into the cover gimmick and just want to read the story.

“It’s five years later and Bruce Wayne is using dangerous science to help him continue his war on crime. What is it, and what forced Bruce to resort to such extremes?”

Coffin Hill #11

Have you been reading this title on a regular basis? Coffin Hill is a horror based storyline that some of you may really enjoy.

“Witch hunters close in on Coffin Hill–with Bianca and Lacey in their sights. As the girls fight for their lives, Eve continues her search for the cold-blooded killer hiding behind the shield of the Boston police… and begins to suspect the Ice Fisher may be closer than she thought.”

New 52 Futures End #19

Aside from all the 3D covers, Futures End is still running weekly with their storyline as well.

“It’s now or never for Batman Beyond and the heist team to make their move on TerrifiTech.”

Superman Geoff Johns, John Romita Jr Directors Cut #1

This special release is reprinting issue #32 which was John Romita’s first Superman book a couple months back. Great for the Superman and Romita fans alike.

“Reprinting the explosive first chapter of “The Man of Tomorrow,” from Superman #32, featuring the spectacular pencil art of John Romita, Jr., along with the entire script by legendary comics writer Geoff Johns!”

Superman Unchained #8

All the Superman titles seem to being going quite well with great writing and stories. Unchained continues this month with their amazing new storyline.

“It’s all going to hell as cosmic-level war breaks out! The full truth of who – or what – Wraith is finally comes to light!”

IDW Publishing

Judge Dredd Anderson Psi Division #2

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; you should put a little Dredd in your life and into your reading list.

“In an all-new adventure from Cassandra Anderson’s early days in Psi-Division, writer Matt Smith and artist Carl Critchlow present ‘King of the Six Sectors.’ The theft of Cursed Earth artifacts has led Anderson deep into the swamplands near Texas City, where she grapples with mutant creatures and a heart of darkness… Plus, Judge Dredd!”

Image Comics

Invincible #114

Kirkman’s great superhero book continues this month. If you haven’t read this, you may just be surprised how refreshing this superhero story has become and why it has such a loyal following.

“The death toll finally reaches its end. Who will rise from the ashes?”

Walking Dead #131

With another season right around the corner for AMC, the comic is still just as popular as the show. Be sure to jump back into Walking Dead mode by picking up this months issue.

“A journey begins. ”

Marvel Comics

Death Of Wolverine #2 (of 4)

With nothing given for a synopsis, the title says about all you need to know. Have you all been picking up and following this ‘soon-to-be’ classic storyline?

Inhuman #5

If you haven’t followed who these guys are, it would be my personal opinion to become slightly familiar with the Inhumans. Marvel is putting a lot of stock into these characters, and i would be surprised if you start to see this term thrown around hit TV series Agents of SHIELD.

“Medusa and the Inhumans of Attilan are taken down hard. The Unspoken is back and taking his kingdom back no matter the cost. “
