In the grand scheme of things, there have been a lot of books to hit the shelves that offer settings of dystopian futures such as The Hunger Games, 1984 or Brave New World. We are innately drawn to them because human beings are curious about these elaborate futures filled with danger, suffering, and in some cases, extinction. This is the case for the new book The Brand by author Nishan Kumaraperu.

After two years in development, Kumaraperu has brought The Brand to Kickstarter in an attempt to raise funds for various things including copies of manuscripts to distribute to publishers, print on demand, a literary agent and of course, a website in order to market the book. Kumaraperu has some great ideas that he puts into his book that shines with everything that one might expect from a dystopian future, including a mysterious System that is in control of everything and a man named Cole Methis who is struggling against all that he knows towards a new destiny. He is set apart from others whose lives were determined for them centuries ago and are passed down ancestrally to live a life where the System takes full control.

For some, The System is a cancer that must be eradicated and stopped, no matter the cost. For others, it is a blueprint for control and the beginning of a far greater purpose. For Cole Methis, if will become the greatest struggle he has ever faced and a treacherous path towards his ultimate destiny! Swept up in a game of intrigue and ever-present danger, it will be he who finally decides his own fate.

If this sounds like the kind of novel you can get behind, check out Kumaraperu’s Kickstarter page and pick up one of his perks.
