Force Band by Sphero is Fun for the Whole FamilySeptember 19, 2016
Recently, The GCE had a chance to check out the new Force Band by Sphero at a launch party they had to promote their product. Well organized with a great light hearted feel, this demonstration brought out everything you want to see in a product and it didn’t hurt that it was loads of fun, either.
The Force Band simply attaches to your wrist and you are off and running. You can use the band by itself to complete the combat training, using things like Blaster, Light Sabers and the Force itself or you can use something called Force Awareness, to uncover and collect digital holocons that can be found in and around your current environment.
However, the real gem of this item is being able to use the force to control BB-8 App Enabled Droid. By syncing the Force Band with the droid, you can actually control it’s movements across the floor with simple gestures from your hand. It may be as close as you ever get to becoming a Jedi and it is a heck of a lot of fun.
Being a father, I enjoyed the Force Band on two different levels. The first being how it was clear very early on that this would grab kids attention with its simple functions and different uses, keeping boredom at bay longer than usual. The second was well….I liked it. Both as a parent and on the child like level that would let me interact with my kids and unleash my inner geek.
The cost might seem a bit high ($80 for the Force Band, $150 for the BB-8) but the technology is solid and there are many different packages you can buy, depending on what it is that you want the most. Also, the lightsaber and blasters used for Combat training are not included and must be bought separately.
In the end, I was very impressed with both the Force Band and the BB-8 App Enabled Droid. It was fun, easy to use and accessible to people of all ages. Sphero has put out a high-quality product here and I highly recommend you try it out the first chance you get.
